Central heating installation and repair in Grimsby
Full systems, radiators, thermostats and controls, installed, repaired and maintained by the same Grimsby firm that looks after the boiler.
Fixed price in writing after a free survey. The price quoted is the price paid; we do not quote over the phone. No-heat and no-hot-water jobs come first: we aim for same or next-day visits across the Grimsby area in office hours.

What we do
The boiler is one part of a heating system. The radiators, the pipework, the pump, the valves and the controls are the rest, and we look after all of it from the same office.
Central heating installation
A full gas central heating system for a home that has none, or a complete change of an old one: boiler, radiators, pipework and controls, surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price in writing.
Heating system installation, maintenance and repair
Pumps, valves, leaks and cold radiators all come under this. If the boiler itself has a fault, boiler repairs has the detail; if the problem is in the system around it, that is this page.
Radiator installation
New radiators and replacements for tired old ones, including vertical radiators like the one in the photo above.
Thermostat installation and repair
Room thermostats, programmers and thermostatic radiator valves, fitted new or repaired when they stop doing their job.
Signs the system needs attention
- A radiator cold at the bottom usually means sludge has settled in it.
- A radiator cold at the top is trapped air, which bleeding releases.
- Several radiators cold at the bottom point to sludge through the system; a power flush clears it.
- Radiators near the boiler hot and the far ones cool means the system wants balancing: the lockshield valves are adjusted so the far radiators heat properly.
- A pump that is louder than it used to be, or rooms that never reach the temperature on the thermostat, point to something in the system rather than the boiler.
Describe what the radiators are doing when you ring and the office will know what sort of visit to book.
A full system change
A straight boiler swap usually takes a day. A full system change, with new radiators and pipework as well as the boiler, takes two to three days.
It starts with a free survey. The engineer looks at the rooms, the existing pipework and where the boiler and flue will go, and the price goes in writing before any work starts. The price quoted is the price paid.
We fit combi, system and regular boilers, so the system can be built round the one that suits the house. Boiler installation explains the three types.
Controls
The minimum set of heating controls is a room thermostat, a programmer and thermostatic radiator valves. Together they let you heat the rooms you use, when you use them, and turning the thermostat down a degree cuts the gas you use.
Since April 2018, under the rules known as Boiler Plus, a new gas boiler fitted in an existing home in England must be at least 92 per cent efficient on the ErP scale and come with time and temperature controls. A new combi also needs one extra energy-saving measure.

Questions about central heating
What heating controls should I have?
At minimum a room thermostat, a programmer and thermostatic radiator valves on the radiators. Since April 2018 a new gas boiler fitted in an existing home in England must come with time and temperature controls, and a new combi also needs one extra energy-saving measure.
Does turning the thermostat down save money?
Yes. Turning the room thermostat down a degree cuts the gas you use. Set it to the lowest temperature you are comfortable at, and use the radiator valves to turn down rooms you do not use.
Why is one radiator cold at the top?
Trapped air. Bleeding the radiator releases it, and the boiler pressure should be checked afterwards. A radiator that is cold at the bottom instead is a different problem, usually sludge.
What is a power flush and when do I need one?
A power flush clears sludge from the whole system. The usual signs are radiators cold at the bottom in several rooms, noisy pipes or a noisy pump, and a slow warm-up. One cold radiator usually needs bleeding or a valve, not a whole-system flush.
What does balancing radiators mean?
Adjusting the lockshield valves so the radiators nearest the boiler do not take all the hot water, which lets the far ones heat properly. It is done once and then left alone.
What central heating work do you do?
Central heating installation, heating system installation, maintenance and repair, radiator installation, and thermostat installation and repair. From a single radiator to a full gas central heating system.
How long does a full central heating system take?
A full system change usually takes two to three days; a straight boiler swap usually takes a day. You get a fixed price in writing after a free survey, and the price quoted is the price paid.

Ring the office. A person answers.
Office staff take the call and book the visit. If the boiler is off, ringing is quicker than the form.
